MALAKAND, 1 December: The earthquake affected people of Malakand and Upper Dir on Monday stage protest demonstrations over not getting compensation.
The affected people of Agra area of Batkhela gathered in front of Malakand Press Club and staged protest. They said 920 houses were damaged in the area in the 26 October earthquake but the district administration and the local government representatives of the area extended help to 186 people only. They said some affected families got five cheques per family, while on the other hand many affected people even could not get tents and they are still living under the open sky.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former federal minister Najmuddin Khan led a rally of quake affected people in Upper Dir. He alleged that the quake relief was distributed among non-deserving people. The protesters said the relief money was inadequate as even a single room of a house cannot be constructed with Rs200,000.
The federal and provincial governments had assured provision of relief to all the affected people by 25 November. However, many quake affected areas are still deprived of aid.
