PESHAWAR: The quota of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the federal jobs is likely to be increased from the existing 11.5 percent to 14.3 percent.

The existing quota for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and Gilgit-Baltistan is 4 percent. After the merger of erstwhile Fata with KP, now the job quota of the combined KP will also increase. Final approval to the proposal will be given by the federal cabinet.

Under the existing arrangements, the federal government selects 7.5 percent applicants by open merit, while the 92.5 percent are selected by using quota system.

The quota of Punjab (including Islamabad) is 50 percent, Sindh 19 percent, KP 11.5 percent, Balochistan 6 percent, Gilgit Baltistan and Fata 4 percent, Azad Kashmir 2 percent, while 10 percent quota is reserved for women which is calculated from the quota of each province or region.

Likewise, the quota of the tribal districts including Khyber, Bajaur, Orakzai, Kurram, Mohmand, North and South Waziristan is also expected to be increased in the provincial jobs.
