PESHAWAR, 7 May: Senator Rafique Rajwana has been appointed new governor of Punjab.
He was named as Punjab governor after a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today.
Mr Rajwana hails from Multan district Southern Punjab. Analysts said the purpose behind giving governorship to a person from South Punjab seems to be a move by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to appease the people of the region who are not very happy with the government.
Mr Rajwana was elected as senator on the PML-N’s ticket in 2012. He will replace Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar who resigned from the post in January.
