PESHAWAR: The Board of Approval chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved Rashakai Economic Zone under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project which will give jobs to about 200,000 people.

Adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information Ajmal Khan Wazir said while talking to media that investment of Rs4 billion will be made in Rashakai Economic Zone which will bring a new era of development in the province. He said the investors will get special facilities in the project and people will get jobs which will improve the overall economic situation.

Ajmal Wazir said Rashakai Special Economic Zone will be the first model economic zone of Pakistan which will connect Pakistan to Afghanistan and Central Asian States through Khyber Economic Corridor. KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for approving the most important project.

On Saturday, the chief minister said while addressing a public meeting in Swabi that Rashakai Economic Zone was ready for inauguration.

Mehmood Khan said extension of Swat Motorway to Badian, expressway to Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral-Shandur Road and various other projects have been included in CPEC. The chief minister said the merger process of former tribal areas in KP is continuing with rapid pace. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan played a great role in sanctioning Rs83 billion for development of merged tribal districts.

The National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar said Rashakai Economic Zone would prove to be a milestone in development of KP. He said the economic zone would create employment opportunities particularly in Swabi, Mardan and Nowshera.

Asad Qaisar said the government was making efforts to resolve economic problems of the country. He assured the tobacco growers in Swabi that their problems will be resolved on priority basis.

According to media reports, Rashakai Economic Zone, one of the nine such zones under CPEC, will be inaugurated soon. Economy experts believe that the mega project is a major opportunity to change the economic geographies of Pakistan and China, especially of Pakistan under which both the countries plan to establish special economic zones alongside the corridor in years to come. It will boost industrialization and generate economic activities.
