BARA, 16 July: It is after seven years that the recently-repatriated internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency will be celebrating Eid in their native areas.
Talking to TNN, they said that they observed seven Eids while being away from their native areas and relatives, carrying no satisfaction and joy for them. Though, they don’t have as much financial resources and facilities which they would have before being displaced, yet they are happy that they would celebrate the upcoming Eid at their homes rather than in IDPs camps.
“We cannot afford new clothes for our children or buy sweets or daily-use items to celebrate Eid. It is our first Eid after our coming back to our areas and it would be the best Eid because one can happily live in his area of choice even with meager resources. Our houses and other belongings got damaged in the conflict which would affect the festivities of Eid,” they asid.
Meanwhile, Spokesman of the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said that the military operation in Khyber Agency triggered displacement of 80,000 families. However, the repatriation of uprooted tribespersons was started in March and so far, 35,000 families have been sent back to their home.
