MINGORA, December 2: Local residents have opposed the establishment of bus terminals alongside Qambar bypass in Swat district and appealed the government to review the project plan.
The residents complained they would suffer badly because they said the government was offering throwaway prices for their lands, far below than the actual worth of their property as per market rates.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, they said the district administration had decided to shift the bus terminal from GT Road to Qambar bypass without their consent.
“This land is worth 8,000 to 10,000 rupees per square feet. The government should purchase property somewhere else. The authorities came here, surrounded the area and specified it for the bus terminal. Now after that they ask us to provide them with the land on rates fixed by themselves; this is impossible! If the government did not withdraw this decision, we would come out and block the bypass road on coming Monday. We are giving deadline of 8 December to the government to review the decision. We want the government authorities to clarify everything to us,” stated a local elder.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Swat district, Mr Muhammad Aslam Wazir, said the chief minister had taken the decision on his own and that the district administration had no say in it.
