PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) central secretary general Mian Iftikhar Hussain says Ahmad Shah Abdali is the crown of Pakhtuns who laid the foundation of the Pakhtun state.

Addressing a ceremony arranged in connection with 247th death anniversary of Ahmad Shah Abdali at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Mian Iftikhar said that with the efforts of Ahmad Shah Abdali, Pakhtuns came out of tribalism and war mentality and became a nation state. He said Abdali was a leader chosen by his people.

Mian Iftikhar said Ahmad Shah Abdali wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth and he endured imprisonment at the age of 14 years. “When Ahmad Shah was elected as king by all the tribes unanimously through a Jirga, he for the first time introduced the concept of ministries in Afghanistan and introduced reforms,” the ANP leader said.

Mian Iftikhar said the ANP during its tenure in the government had included chapters about Pakhtun heroes like Ahmad Shah Abdali and Bacha Khan in the education curriculum. He said no other government in KP in the past made any such effort. He vowed to set up portraits and statues of Pakhtun leaders in every district of KP if the ANP came to power again.

The ANP leader said Pakhtun leader Bacha Khan taught the Pakhtuns the modern methods of running a state and he promoted the philosophy of non-violence. He said the Pakhtun nation is following the golden principles introduced by Bacha Khan.

Senior lawyer Latif Afridi also addressed the function and said barbed wires cannot separate the nations. He also paid tribute to the achievements of Ahmad Shah Abdali and his services for Pakhtuns.

The ANP provincial president Mukhtar Bacha, Shahab Khattak of Awami Workers Party, Mazdoor Kisan Party president Gul Haider and information secretary Shakeel Waheedullah also addressed the ceremony. They urged the need for inclusion of more Pakhtun heroes in the education course so that the new generation gets to know about the achievements of these leaders. They warned that propaganda against Pakhtun leaders will never be tolerated.

Ahmad Shah Abdali is regarded the founder of modern Afghan state. His mausoleum is located in Kandahar province of Afghanistan.
