PESHAWAR, September 22: The Prime Minister, Mr Nawaz Sharif, has given responsibility of heading the Inter-Services Intelligence to the Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar.

The Inter-Services Public Relations has notified that upon retirement of Lieutenant General Syed Zaheerul Islam, Mr Rizwan Akhtar would appointed ISI director general on 8 October.

Syed Zaheerul Islam will retire on 5 October. In the past, Mr Rizwan Akhtar has served as head of Rangers force in Karachi, Sindh province.

The ISPR says the Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif, has promoted five more Major Generals to Lieutenant Generals, including Major General Naveed Mukhtar, Major General Ghayoor Mehmood, Major General Hidayatur Rehman, Major General Nazir Butt and Major General Hilal Hussain.

Corps Commander Khalid Rabbani is likely to be replaced by Mr Hidayatur Rehman in near future.
