SADDA, 8 December: Compensation cheques worth Rs27.7 million were distributed among over 200 earthquake affected families of Kurram Agency on Monday.

A ceremony in this regard was held at Governor Cottage Jirga Hall on Monday where the political agent distributed cheques of Rs200,000 each among the owners of 59 completely damaged houses and cheques of Rs100,000 each among owners of 152 partially damaged houses. Those who received compensation cheques thanked the government for financial assistance.

“We thank the political administration and other institutions for helping us in the hour of need. We are very thankful to the government for this assistance but there are many houses which were cracked during the earthquake and the owners of that houses got nothing,” a tribesman who received cheque told TNN.

Another tribesman said many houses which were damaged in the 26 October earthquake in Khanikhel area have not been included in the survey. He demanded the government to conduct fresh survey in the area.

Meanwhile, the quake affected people of various villages of Hill Village union council in Battagram held a protest demonstration over not getting compensation. They demanded the government to take action against negligent officials.
