PESHAWAR: The Safe City Project will be inaugurated soon to ensure security of Peshawar with the help of modern equipment and technology.

According to a statement of the provincial police department, the preparation of an act for this purpose is in final phase which will be presented to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for approval.

Under the plan, 5,000 to 8,000 high-resolution close circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in urban areas of Peshawar to make sure that no criminal escapes from the grip of law. The statement said identification of criminals and quick access to records will be ensured through digitalised policing and direct networking among different security departments.

Work on the Safe City Project was initiated in the tenure of the previous government. In the first phase, the project will be introduced in Peshawar after which it will be extended to other cities of KP. The purpose of introducing the project is to ensure security of life and property of citizens and end crimes.
