PESHAWAR, 5 April: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed as new captain of Pakistan Twnety20 cricket team.

The PCB Chairman Shaharyar M Khan said he has conveyed Sarfaraz that he has been named as new captain. He wished him good luck as captain in the shortest format of the game.

Sarfaraz has thanked the PCB for reposing trust in him for the Twenty20 captaincy. He vowed to work hard for moving the team forward and improve results.

The new captain was named after Shahid Afridi announced to step down from captaincy after dismal performance at the Asia Cup and World Twenty20. However, he said he will be available as ordinary player in the team.

Head coach Waqar Younis also resigned from his post after poor performance in the World Twenty20 and the PCB also dissolved the selection committee.
