PESHAWAR, April 30: Grand Mufti of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Mr Abdulaziz al-Shaikh, has issued a religious decree asking the drivers not to cross red signals and called this act of traffic rules’ violation a “major sin”.
The Mufti al-Shaikh, who is considered the most senior authority on religion in Saudi Arabia, referred to the Quranic verse, “if you kill one person unjustly, it is as if you killed the whole humanity, and if you saved once person it is as if you saved the whole humanity.”
The Arab media reports quoted the Mufti as saying that the traffic violations leading someone being killed were a major sin.
The grand Mufti’s edict emerged at a time when, according to the UAE media reports, the Kingdom is witnessing one of the highest rates of traffic accidents.
Al-Shaikh had announced a similar decree back in 2010, asking people to follow the traffic rules.
