SADDA, 23 October: Security forces on Friday claimed to have arrested a would-be suicide bomber and his five associates who were planning to target Muharram procession in Kurram Agency.
Security officials said that security forces arrested a would-be suicide bomber from Sadda area in Lower Kurram Agency and shifted him to undisclosed location for investigation. They said that in light of information shared by the alleged potential suicide bomber, security forces arrested five of his accomplices from Sadda and moved them to unknown place for interrogation. Security forces have launched search operations in various areas of Lower Kurram Agency to counter potential threats from miscreants in order to ensure security during Muharram processions in the agency, they said adding that the accused had plotted to target Muharram processions and gatherings in the agency.
Mourning processions and religious gatherings are underway in around 400 Imambargah in Kurram Agency on the eve of 9th Muharram to pay rich tributes to Hazrat Imam-e-Hussain and his friends and followers who rendered huge sacrifices at Karbala some 1400 years back.
To maintain security during Muharram processions and gatherings, mobile phone service has been suspended in Parachinar and surrounding areas for two days on 9th and 10th of Muharram. Besides, Pak-Afghan border has been closed for any all of movement by security forces till Sunday.
