BUNER, 16 February: Police in Buner have imparted training to the security guards of 128 schools on the use of guns in emergency situations.

The training was arranged in Nawagai on Tuesday which was attended by guards of government-run and private schools. The guards were also given training in sharp-shooting. Police said after terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, the government issued directions to them to impart training on the use of guns to 800 school guards in Buner district.

The school guards who received training said it will be useful for them for ensuring better security at schools.

“We are satisfied over getting this training. We will pray that no need arise for the use of gun, but in case of any such eventuality, we will never hesitate to lay down our lives for our motherland,” a school security guard told TNN.

Another guard said they were untrained earlier, but now at least they can use the gun for their self-defence.

It merits mentioning here that the watchmen of government schools in Swat and Dir had few days ago refused to perform 24-hour security duty. They said they cannot perform security duties at the schools round the clock in the existing salaries.
