PESHAWAR, October 1: The Khyber Right to Public Service Commission held a seminar at the University of Peshawar campus to raise awareness among students about the law.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology Mr Syed Imtiaz was chief guest at the event held in the Pashto Cultural Hall on 30 September. Mr Gillani said it was necessary to inform and educate people about the Right to Public Services Act.
He said that if someone wanted to access information about the land ownership, police cases or government jobs, he would just write a simple application and the concerned department would be bound to provide information to him.
On the occasion, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Mr Khaliqur Rehman said the law spoke of the efficiency of the provincial government. “We introduced this law because it emphasises that the officials of various departments are the servants of the public,” the MPA added.
Session on Right to Information Act at Kohat university
Meanwhile, the Center of Governance and Public Accountability arranged an awareness session on KP Right to Information Act 2013 at the Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST).
Commissioner Right to Information Mr Abdul Mateen informed the students about the background of the law, its evolution and implementation in various countries.
Mr Abdul Mateen said the KP Right to Information Act was one of the best laws in the country as it has two very simple rules. One is that the person who will ask for the information will not be questioned why that person needs the information and, secondly, nothing is a secret now.
Project Manager of the organization, Ms Zil-e-Huma, briefed the participants on salient features of the law and explained how effective the use of RTI Act is for the accountability of the government employees.
