PESHAWAR, 25 November: To discourage torture of womenfolk, an awareness seminar followed by a walk held in connection with the International day for the elimination of violence against here in Hayatabad township of Peshawar on Friday.
The seminar was organized in Hayatabad Medical Complex in which the speakers, who were mainly doctors, said that incidents of violence against women have been increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as around 70% women patients who visit the hospital for medical treatment are victims of different kind of violence.
A participant of the seminar Dr. Iqbal Begam told TNN that the government should enact laws for the prevention of violence against women.
“Women are killed, tortured and thrown out of homes on daily basis. They are subjected to cruelties and acid attacks. People may not be aware of these things as we work in hospital and witness such cases. We strongly condemn violence against women”, she said.
