QUETTA, 16 May: Speakers at a seminar on gender equality held here yesterday discussed the discriminatory attitude prevailing in the society against women.

The programme was held under the aegis of the Women Development Department, in collaboration with the Aurat Foundation. Prominent among the participants were member of the Balochistan Assembly, spouse of the commander of Southern Command, Aurat Foundation chief, chairman of the Public Service Commission, Women Development Secretary and civil society members.

Talking to TNN, a participant said: “Women should have say in the decision-making and they should be given the confidence that they are an integral part of society and they can do any job which male members of the society can. And this will become possible by proper legislation and through such awareness programmes.”

Speakers said that civil society organisations have played a commendable role to help draft women-related bills and they should carry on their mission with dedication and courage.
