PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman has congratulated the people of tribal district over successful holding of first ever provincial elections in the area.

In a statement, Shah Farman said the last phase of merger of erstwhile Fata with KP has completed with provincial elections in merged districts. He said it is a matter of great satisfaction that the people of tribal districts have now got representation in KP Assembly. He said all the people of tribal district deserve felicitation over peaceful and transparent polls.

The governor said a new era of development will begin in merged districts with arrival of its representatives to KP Assembly. He said the new members of KP Assembly from tribal district will work for development of their areas.

He said the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan has succeeded as peaceful elections were held in tribal districts. He said the credit of peaceful elections in the merged districts goes to Pakistan Army which provided fool proof security for the polls.

Earlier, KP Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai said it is a matter of great satisfaction that elections were held in merged tribal districts in peaceful atmosphere.

In a statement, he said quarrels often happen even in local bodies and low-level elections everywhere, but in tribal districts, people showed great political maturity by ensuring peaceful elections.

He said it is a great achievement for people of merged districts that their representatives will now sit in the KP Assembly and raise voice for their rights. He said the KP government will continue its efforts to provide maximum facilities to people of merged districts.

Earlier, UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew expressed best wishes for provincial elections in tribal districts.

“Best wishes to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s newly merged districts. A historic day for the former #FATA as they elect members of the KP Assembly for the first time. May they do so safely and freely,” he said on Twitter.

Federal Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak also congratulated the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), local administration and security forces on peaceful conduct of elections in tribal districts.

Addressing a function in Nowshera, he said the PTI has emerged as major party in the elections. He said most of the independent candidates are in contact with the government.
