PESHAWAR: Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has announced to resign as adviser to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.

Shoaib Akhtar took to social media website Twitter on Thursday and announced his resignation.

“This is to announce that I have resigned from the post of Adviser to the Chairman #PCB effective immediately,” the ex-cricketer wrote.

Shoaib Akhtar has resigned from his post after the resignation of former PCB chief Najam Sethi and appointment of Ehsan Mani as new chairman. He said he was appointed by Najam Sethi, therefore, it will be inappropriate for him to continue after his resignation.

Shoaib Akhtar is widely known as “Rawalpindi-Express” being the fastest bowler in the world. He was appointed adviser to former PCB chairman Najam Sethi in February this year.

Najam Sethi resigned from the post of PCB chief after election of Imran Khan as prime minister of Pakistan, who is also patron-in-chief of PCB. Mr Sethi decided to step down as he was expecting ouster by the prime minister due to a history of political differences with him.
