BARA, January 24: The shopkeepers of Bara Bazaar in Khyber Agency have threatened to keep their business shut and launch a protest movement if the government failed to compensate them for their losses.

The shopkeepers told TNN that about 10,500 shopkeepers have been closed in Bara during the last six years due to law and order issues. He said the traders of Bara Bazaar suffered losses of millions of rupees due to closure of these shops.

The affected shopkeepers said FDMA, SMEDA and other government agencies conducted damage assessments in the area after restoration of law and order but no steps have been taken to pay compensation to them.

“The local businessmen are left with no capital. The implications will be countrywide if we were not compensated for our losses. We will stage a sit-in in front of the Governor House till the acceptance of our demands,” the shopkeepers said.

The shopkeepers added that they will not follow the government announcement of opening Bara Bazaar if they were not compensated for their losses.
