SWAT, 19 July: The alliance of political parties of Malakand Division has announced to observe shutter-down strike on 27 July to record protest against imposition of Custom Act in the area.

Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of political parties leaders in Swat on Monday which was headed by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) provincial ameer Maulana Gul Naseeb.

The chief minister’s adviser Mohibullah Khan, Dedak chairman MPA Fazal Hakim Khan, Action Committee members and elected councillors and traders attended the meeting.

It was decided that a meeting on Custom Act will be held in Chakdara on 24 July which will be attended by the elected lawmakers from Malakand Division.

Action Committee spokesman Fazal Rehman Nono said a schedule for the phase-wise protests has been chalked out. Under the schedule, he said, shutter-down strike will be held on 27 July, and wheel-jam strike in the whole Malakand Division will be held on 5 August.

Participants of the meeting said tens of thousands of people of Malakand Agency will stage a sit-in in Islamabad on 10 August if the federal government did not lift Custom Act from Malakand Division.

Custom Act was imposed in Malakand Division in April this year. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has sent a summary to the Centre to lift Custom Act from Malakand Division, but it has not responded to the summary.
