PESHAWAR, 7 May: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq on Friday said he will raise the issue of upgradation of FATA teachers in the National Assembly and the Senate.

In a meeting with the protesting FATA teachers, who are staging a sit-in in front of the Islamabad Press Club for the last 18 days, Siraj said he will raise the issue in the Parliament if the genuine demands of the FATA teachers were not accepted within three days.

The JI chief said the teachers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were given promotions in 2013 and the same notification also applies on the FATA teachers. He said he is unable to understand why the federal government is not resolving this issue.

Sirajul Haq also criticised the government for being indifferent to the closure of all schools in FATA for the last 18 days and not holding negotiations with the protesting teachers.

FATA Teachers Association press secretary Asif Afridi thanked the JI chief for showing solidarity with the tribal teachers and hoped that the problem will be resolved after bringing the issue to the Parliament.
