FR TANK, April 30: Six officials of a polio monitoring team, who had been kidnapped in Frontier Region Tank two and a half months ago, were recovered through a jirga of local elders.

Officials of the local administration told TNN that the officials of World Health Organisation, Dr Khandad, Supervisor Sadeequllah and three Levies personnel along with a driver visited Pang area to monitor the performance of polio teams on 14 April but all of them were kidnapped from there.

The kidnappers released them through the efforts of a local Jirga and administration officials without payment of ransom.

Jirga, a meeting of elders, is of paramount significance in the Pakhtun culture and it is held to resolve various issues and disputes.
