PESHAWAR, 6 November: Six press clubs of Pakistan have struck an agreement with International Media Support, an international non-governmental organisation (NGO), to establish safety hubs for journalists.

These safety hubs will be established in Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Islamabad, Quetta, Karachi and Lahore. Under the agreement reached between International Media Support and six press clubs in Islamabad, the safety hubs will be established initially on experimental basis for five months.

The safety hubs will receive complaints regarding threats to journalists and will devise strategy to tackle these threats. Norway will provide required funds for the project.

Pakistan is among the countries where journalists face various threats while performing their professional duties. Over a hundred journalists have been killed in Pakistan during the last 15 years and over 2,000 others faced kidnappings and injuries.
