
PESHAWAR: Amid increasing coronavirus cases in Peshawar in the third wave, the district administration has imposed a smart lockdown in four areas.
The four areas under the smart lockdown in the provincial metropolis include: Street No 9, Sector E-11, Phase I, Hayatabad; Street No 3, Gulbahar No 4, near Police Chowki; Street No 11, Defence Colony, Peshawar Cantt; Street No 5, Sector F-V, Phase VI, Hayatabad.
The smart lockdown came into effect from 6:00pm Saturday and it will remain in force till further orders. According to an official notification, the entry and exit points of these four localities will be sealed during the lockdown. No general entry or exit to these localities by any person, except those supplying essential commodities, shall be allowed. All the gatherings will remain prohibited during the lockdown period and all shops other than essential services shall remain closed. The congregation in mosques will be restricted to five people only.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has so far reported 75,357 cases of coronavirus, and 2,147 deaths. Federal Minister for Planning, Asad Umar, who is also head of National Command and Operation Centre, has already announced that the third wave of COVID-19 has already started in Pakistan. Similar measures have been taken in some other cities of the country with high positivity rate, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Certain localities Peshawar were also put under lockdown last week to prevent further transmission of corona.
“Upon recommendations of office of the District Health Officer, Peshawar, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Sections 8 and 21 of the KP, the undersigned is pleased to order ‘controlled entry and exit’ of localities in Peshawar,” the district administration said in an official notification issued last Sunday.
The localities that were put under lockdown on last Sunday included: Street No. 02, Sector-P-II, Phase-IV, Hayatabad, Street No. 04, Shami Road, Peshawar Cantonment, Street No. 10, Sector-E-VI, Phase-VII, Hayatabad and Street No, 05, Muslimabad, Kakshal, and University Town.
The NCOC during its Saturday’s meeting showed serious concern on rising positivity of COVID-19 in the country and asked citizen to follow SOPs. The meeting was told that major contributors in the national positivity are Punjab, Islamabad and few cities of KP and AJK.
