PESHAWAR, 10 March: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said the social media websites that did not cooperate in removing the blasphemous material will be blocked.

The minister while chairing a meeting in Islamabad on Thursday asked the officials of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to inform the owners of social media websites to devise a permanent procedure of blocking sacrilegious material from the websites. He said the Facebook administration was not cooperating with the Pakistan government in blocking of the blasphemous content.

A case in this regard has also been heard by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Under the court’s directions, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched crackdown against people involved in spreading sacrilegious content on the social media. The citizens have also been requested through advertisements to point out elements involved in such heinous activities.
