PESHAWAR: Terrorist attacks on security forces and target killing incidents in Waziristan region have increased recently which have created an atmosphere of concern among the people.
The security forces have also stepped up intelligence-based operations (IBO) to target terrorists.
On Monday, three people, including a soldier, died in a terror attack and target killing in separate incidents in North and South Waziristan tribal districts.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a soldier was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in South Waziristan.
The security forces were conducting a clearance operation in Asman Manza area when they came under attack. The martyred soldier was identified as Sepoy Wajidullah, 25, resident of Karak.
The ISPR said the security forces cordoned off the area and killed one terrorist.
Earlier, two brothers were killed in a target killing incident in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan.
Official sources said unknown armed men attacked a pick up vehicle in Nauna village and killed two brothers Hikmatullah and Rehman, hailing from Ghulam Khan. The assailants escaped the scene after committing the crime.
It was 42nd incident of target killing this year in which at least 43 people have lost their lives.
On August 27, an IBO was conducted in Spinwam area of North Waziristan. During intense exchange of fire, one terrorist got killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorist.
The same day, a cross-border attack was reported from North Waziristan, in which a solider sustained injuries.
Official sources said militants based in Afghanistan attacked a check post of the security forces in Dattakhel. The security forces retaliated after which the terrorists escaped.
Eminent social activist and founder president of Youth of Waziristan Noor Islam Dawar was also shot dead by unidentified armed men in in North Waziristan on Friday.
Local sources said Noor Islam Dawar was coming back to his village Mulagan from Mir Ali Bazaar when unidentified armed men travelling in a car and a motorcycle opened fire on him in Inzerabad area, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted by the local people to Mir Ali Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
