PESHAWAR: One soldier was embraced martyrdom and two terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan tribal district late on Friday night.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the security forces conducted an IBO on a hideout of terrorists in Malik Khel area of North Waziristan late on Friday night.
During intense exchange of fire, two terrorists including a commander Rehmat alias Khalid was killed, and Havaldar Shehzad Raza embraced martyrdom.
The ISPR said terrorist Rehmat alias Khalid was an improvised explosive device (IED) expert and remained involved in different terrorist activities against the security forces, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and target killings in the area since 2009.
The security forces also conducted a search operation during which they recovered a huge cache of weapons.
Earlier in the day, five soldiers were martyred in an attack by militants on their check post in South Waziristan.
Official sources said terrorists attacked a check post of the security forces in Deela Mazarai area of Sra Rogha tehsil. The sources said five soldiers were martyred and another was injured in the attack. The attack was carried out on the check post of 223 Wing of the Frontier Corps (FC).
Militants were driven out from the tribal districts in military operations, but still terrorists sometimes attack the security forces from their leftover hideouts. The security forces also conduct IBOs after receiving credible information about presence of militants to ward off any threat of attacks.
On February 16, three terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) by the security forces in North Waziristan.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the IBO was carried out in Mir Ali area. The operation was carried out over credible information about presence of terrorists. Three terrorists associated with Aleem Khan Khushali group were killed in the operation.
On February 15, two soldiers were martyred while eight others were injured in an attack on the security forces in South Waziristan.
Sources said a convoy of the security forces was attacked at Wana Bypass Road near Speen Jumaat in which two soldiers were martyred, while eight others were injured.
On February 12, four soldiers were martyred in an attack by terrorists on a security forces post in South Waziristan.
