GHALLANAI, October 11: A security personnel and three militants have been killed in a clash in Mohmand Agency.
Administration officials say the militants opened fire on the security forces during a search operation in Plandara area of Halimzai tehsil. A soldier Mr Qayyum Khan died on the spot while Mr Asim and Mr Yasin were injured.
The security forces also claimed to have killed three militants by targeting some areas with gunship helicopters.
The Mohmand Agency is one of the agencies in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan, created in 1951. Before that, the Mohmand tribes were administered by the deputy commissioner of Peshawar.
However, the agency headquarters were moved from Peshawar to Ekkagund in 1973. Nowadays the permanent agency headquarters is at Ghallanai.
In 2009, the Pakistani military launched Mohmand Offensive, also known as Operation Brekhna (Operation Thunder) against the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in the agency.
