PESHAWAR: A soldier was martyred when terrorists opened fire on a Pakistan Army check post in Ghariom area in North Waziristan tribal district on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani troops responded in a befitting manner. During exchange of fire, Naik Ghulam Mustafa, 37, resident of Muzaffarabad, embraced martyrdom.

The funeral of Naik Ghulam Mustafa was offered at his native town Duna Chatter, Muzaffarabad. A large number of people attended the funeral. The martyred soldier was buried with full military honour.

After the check post attack, the security forces conducted clearance operation in Zangutai on reported presence of terrorists. During exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed, while an officer and a soldier were injured.

The check post attack happened a day after a police van on polio duty hit a landmine on Badar Bridge in Ladha tehsil in South Waziristan.

District Police Officer (DPO) Shaukat Ali said a police mobile was patrolling the area when the blast took place. He said a policeman was injured and the vehicle damaged.

Security situation has worsened in Waziristan region recently and attacks on security forces have increased, as a result of which the security forces have also stepped up intelligence-based operations.

On July 05, three security personnel were martyred and another was injured in an attack on their check post in Mir Ali sub-division of North Waziristan.

Official sources said the attack was carried out by militants in Hasankhel area of Speen Wam town. The martyred security personnel were identified as Naik Gul Bahadur, Sepoys Khurram and Adnan, while the injured soldier was identified as Fawad.

On June 30, five soldiers were martyred and five others were injured in two cross border attacks in North and South Waziristan.

Terrorists based in Afghanistan attacked a check post of Frontier Corps (FC) in Khaisura, Faqir Killi, in South Waziristan, in which three soldiers were martyred and three others were injured, security sources said.

In North Waziristan, two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred after terrorists attacked a security forces check post near Dwatoi area. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army troops retaliated to the cross-border firing from Afghanistan.

On June 19, two terrorists were killed, while a soldier embraced martyrdom during an IBO in Spinwam area of North Waziristan. Following an intense exchange of fire, the two terrorists were eliminated, the ISPR said.
