PESHAWAR, 02 October: Sri Lanka won the first match by 21 runs after dismissing Pakistan for just 114 runs on the fifth day of the first Test match in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Pakistani batsmen, while chasing a modest target of 136 runs set by Sri Lanka, struggled against Rangana Herath who took 11 wickets in the match. Herath and Dilruwan Perera bagged nine wickets in the second inning of Pakistan.
It was Pakistan’s first ever defeat in Abu Dhabi.
Herath, who completed the century of wickets against Pakistan, also became the first leg-spinner to bag 400 Test wickets.
Pakistan batsman, Haris Sohail, who was playing his debut match, tried to put up some resistance but was dismissed by Dilruwan Perera for 34.
Openers Sami Aslam and Shan Masood didn’t provide a solid start to Pakistan and were dismissed cheaply. Senior batsman Azhar Ali also did not perform well and was out for a duck.
Earlier, Yasir Shah (5-51) took another five-wicket haul to help Pakistan wrap Sri Lanka’s second inning for 138 before lunch, setting Pakistan a 136-run target on the slow and spinning track.
