PESHAWAR, June 28: The Sri Lankan government has banned entry of Pakistanis without visas.

On 27 June, the Sri Lankan government wrote to the foreign ministry, saying the Pakistanis wishing to visit Sri Lanka would have to write an application to the Sri Lanka High Commission in Pakistan.

The Sri Lankan government says they took this decision because there has been a sharp rise in the number of applications for political asylum in the country.

Previously, Pakistanis used to get visas at the Sri Lankan airport.
