PESHAWAR, 26 April: Though Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan has banned funfair events at the sports stadiums, yet this seems to be inapplicable when it comes to Grassy Ground, Swat.
At the expense of players’ future, one can easily hold funfairs at Grassy Ground. Local sportsmen say that this is the lone cricket stadium in the whole Malakand Division, but they cannot use it for cricketing as most of the time it is used for holding funfairs, conduct race for recruitment in police as well as National Testing Service tests are held here.
If this practice is not stopped, we are not sure that the Inter-District PCB Tournament set for 17th May could be held, they said.
“Whenever we come to this ground the policemen deputed here stop us from entering the ground. Next month we will be playing Grade-II but we cannot practice for upcoming matches because most of the time the ground is occupied by funfair groups, inflicting great loss to our ground. We request the administration of the ground to kindly put a complete ban on holding activities in the ground other than sports,” they said.
