SWAT, 13 May: Campaign for the upcoming local bodies elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 30 May is gaining momentum and contesting candidates are arranging corner meetings and rallies to gain support of voters.
Swat Police have advised the contesting candidates to avoid campaigning after evening owing to uncertain law and order situation. The candidates taking part in the local bodies polls are of the view that this will negatively impact their campaigning. They said maintaining of law and order situation is the responsibility of the government. They said the government should deploy police personnel in all parts of Swat to ensure security of campaigning candidates.
“People go for their jobs in the morning and do rest in the afternoon. Our campaign will be severely affected if we are not allowed to campaign after the evening. They have advised us to perform morning and evening prayers at home. If the law and order is not good then they shouldn’t have allowed the polls,” a candidate for the local bodies polls in Swat told TNN.
“The law and order situation is going from bad to worse in the area. Nobody really knows what the future has in store for us,” another candidate said.
On the other hand, DSP Mingora Siddique Akbar says these instructions have been issued to the candidates for their security and ensuring better law and order in the area.
