PESHAWAR: The Tehreek-e-Taliban Taliban (TTP) has claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s suicide attack on the corner meeting of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Peshawar.

The TTP spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said in a statement on Wednesday that the bomber Abdul Karim carried out the attack. He asked the people to stay away from the ANP rallies and meetings as it is on the hit list of the Taliban.

Twenty-one people, including ANP leader Haroon Bilour, were martyred in the suicide attack on the corner meeting.

The funeral prayers of 11 martyrs were offered at Esakhel Masjid in Rehman Baba graveyard on Wednesday morning. The funeral of Haroon Bilour will be held at 5:00pm at Wazir Bagh.

Meanwhile, a joint investigation team has been formed to probe the attack on ANP gathering in Peshawar.

Inspector General Police Muhammad Tahir said the team has been asked to submit its report within a week. He said seven officers have been included in the team led by the deputy inspector general of Counter Terrorism Department.

Police teams are also continuing search operations in different parts of the city and security on entrance and exit routes of the city has also been enhanced.
