Tangi farmers protest against stoppage of irrigation water from Palai dam

CHARSADDA, 11 October: The farmers of Tangi tehsil of Charsadda on Tuesday staged protest against stoppage of irrigation water from Palai dam.

The protesting farmers from Koz Behram Dheri and Karimo said irrigation water from Palai dam has been blocked for the last 20 days due to which their crops are going dry. Shahzada, a local farmer, said water from the dam was not restored despite several complaints with the concerned authorities.

“Not even a single drop of water has been given to us from the dam for the last 16 days. Despite weak health due to old age, I went there several times, they release water for a little time and block it again. Several people went there yesterday, but they were sent back by the dam administrators by showing them batons and guns. They say it is their dam and farmers have no right over it,” Shahzada told TNN.

The protesting farmers threatened to block Shakoor road and stop work on the canal if their problem was not resolved immediately.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after the Palai dam officials assured them that water for their fields will be released soon.
