PESHAWAR: In an apparent act of target killing, unknown armed motorcyclists on Wednesday gunned down Awami National Party leader Muhammad Ibrar Khalil and his nephew in Tehkal locality of Peshawar.

The police said that Ibrar Khalil was on way back home after attending a funeral when unidentified armed persons wearing masks opened fire on his vehicle, killing him and his nephew Rashid on the spot.

The police called it an apparent act of target killing and said that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons. Superintendent of Police (Cantonment circle) Wasim Riaz confirmed the incident and said that Ibrar was shot dead near Subhanabad on Chalmari Road.

Bodies of the deceased were shifted to hospital for postmortem after which they handed over to relatives for burial. Ibrar was ANP candidate for PK-74 and an active social worker who would always work for solution of problems of the area.
