PESHAWAR, 16 October: Government teachers have refused to perform polling duties during the upcoming by-election in NA-4, Peshawar.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Professors and Lecturers Association has said in a letter addressed to the Election Commission that they would not perform election duties until their demands are accepted by the provincial government.
The Election Commission has nominated about 700 school teachers for polling duty in the constituency but it said, as many as 150 teachers have refused to perform duty.
The Election Commission has announced by-election in the constituency on Oct 26. The seat fell vacant following the demise of PTI parliamentarian Gulzar Khan.
It merits a mention here that teachers of government schools and colleges have announced boycott from duties as a protest against non-acceptance of their demands.
