PESHAWAR: After closure of schools in the whole country due to the fear of coronavirus spreading, the Ministry of Information with the help of Education Ministry has initiated teleschool program under which classes for students from first to 12th grade are held on television for children from 8:00am to 05:00pm.

Millions of students around the country are benefiting from this program, by watching their classes on television screen. Chashman, a student of 10th grade in Government Girls High School Qasabkhana, Peshawar is among such students who are very keenly attending their classes at home by simply sitting before the TV screens and taking notes if necessary. She said the method of teaching of teleschool teachers is very easy and interesting which is benefiting the students who are sitting home due to lockdown.

However, Noorul Amin, another student from the same school, said although teleschool is a good effort by the government, but she cannot benefit from it fully as monitoring of students under this program is not possible and neither she can pose any question or concentrate for long.

Falak Naz, a teacher at Girls Middle School Niami, said this is a good program which should continue even after opening of schools. She said some rural areas in the country don’t have the facility of television, therefore, the government must also make arrangements for broadcasting these programs on radio.

Students from merged tribal districts said they have heard about teleschool, but they cannot take benefit from it. Amjid Ali, an intermediate student from Bajaur, said power supply remains disconnected in merged tribal districts and many people also don’t have TV sets due to poverty. He said internet service is also not available in merged districts, therefore, the students of tribal districts are deprived of the program benefit the same way they are deprived of benefits of online classes by different universities. He demanded the government to provide facilities to students of merged districts to enable them to take benefit from teleschool program.

Muhammad, another student from merged districts, said the government has initiated teleschool, but most students in tribal districts can’t take benefit from it.

Hadia, a teacher at Government Girls High School Ijazabad, said it is the responsibility of parents to make their children sit before the TV sets to take classes and save their precious time.
