PESHAWAR, November 18: Eight more children have been starved to death due to famine in Tharparkar, raiding the death toll up to 80 in 48 days in Sindh province.
As per media reports, about 14 children have died in the last two days because of famine in the area. Apart from that, hundreds of wells have dried up in the area, which has triggered the migration of hundreds of families to other areas.
Mr Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, said that deaths of children in Tharparkar were neither because of famine, nor drought, but said that it was due to maternity related complications.
On the other hand, he said that a nutrition programme would be initiated for children in Tharparkar soon. In addition, a project related to marketing of milk from Thar has also been finalised in collaboration with the World Bank.
