PESHAWAR, 23 November: The three-day polio vaccination campaign kicked off in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA on Wednesday.

The KP Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) said 5,643,000 children below the age of five years in the province will be administered polio drops during the campaign. Twenty thousand polio teams will take part in the door to door campaign to ensure provision of polio drops to every child.

A target of administering polio drops to over a million children in FATA has also been set for the campaign. Over 4,000 teams will participate in the campaign.

The FATA EOC said the drive has been postponed to 28 November in Mehsud areas of South Waziristan Agency due to the ongoing repatriation process of the internally displaced persons (IDPs). Police will protect the polio teams in KP, while Army, Frontier Corps and Levies personnel will provide security to polio teams in FATA.

Eight polio cases have been reported in KP and two in FATA this year.
