PESHAWAR: Three terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) by the security forces to thwart an infiltration attempt by terrorists close to Pak-Afghan border in Lower Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an exchange of fire happened during the operation during which three terrorists were killed. The slain terrorists were identified as Abid and Yousaf Khan, both residents of Swat, and Abdul Sattar, resident of Mardan.

The ISPR said a huge quantity of weapons, ammunition and grenades were also recovered during the operation. These terrorists remained involved in several target killing incidents at Swat in 2019. These terrorists had planned to infiltrate from Afghan side and target several notables inside Pakistan. However, they were timely engaged and killed.

The ISPR said that people of the area appreciated the operation and vowed their full support to defeat the menace of terrorism from the area.

The security forces have recently stepped up operations against terrorists in areas near the Pak-Afghan border and several terrorists have been killed during these operations.

On January 21, the security forces during an IBO in Qaddafi area of Utmankhel tehsil in Bajaur tribal district killed two terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Official sources said the security forces conducted an operation over a secret information and killed two terrorists. According to the tip off, the terrorists were planning to move from one place to other for some terror planning. They were killed during exchange of fire with the security forces.

On January 18, two terrorists were killed, while another was injured during an IBO in Nargosa area of South Waziristan tribal district, the ISPR said.

The security forces conducted an operation in Nargosa area of South Waziristan. During intense fire, it said, two terrorists, Usman Ali and Waheed, were killed and one got injured and apprehended.

On January 17, 2020, rockets fired from Afghanistan landed in civilian areas of Bajaur.

However, no life loss was reported in the rocket attacks. TNN correspondent reported that the rockets fired from Afghanistan landed in Mulla Killi and Laghrai Bazaar areas near the Pak-Afghan border.

Security sources said efforts were being made recently by terrorist based in Afghanistan to launch cross-border attacks. Several attacks have been made from across the border in which several innocent people have lost their lives.
