WANA: Three terrorists have been killed in an intelligence-based operation in Gul Kach area of South Waziristan tribal district, security sources said.

According to sources, the action was carried out under Operation Raddul Fasaad. An exchange of fire took place between the security forces and terrorists in Gul Kach area during which three terrorists were killed. The sources said the terrorists opened fire on the security forces after which a clash ensued. The terrorists escaped towards the mountains after attacking the security forces, but the soldiers chased them and shot them dead.

The security forces said hand grenades and explosive material was recovered from the possession of the terrorists. The sources said the identification process of the bodies was being carried out. The troops also found identity cards as well as cards of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the dead bodies.

Intelligence-based operations are being carried out from time to time in Waziristan and other tribal districts as still there is a small presence of militants who carry out attacks on the security forces. Several soldiers and civilians have lost their lives in different terrorist attacks in the tribal districts recently.

In the latest such attack on 25 January, two persons, including a security personnel, were injured in a blast near a security check post in North Waziristan tribal district. Official sources said an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a check post in Mir Ali sub-division, injuring Havaldar Pervaiz and civilian Akbar Khan.

On 24 January, two children of a family sustained injuries in a landmine blast in North Waziristan. On 23 January, a Frontier Corps (FC) personnel lost his life and another sustained injuries in a landmine blast in Safi tehsil of Mohmand tribal district.

25 students of Gomal University booked

Cases have been filed against over 25 students of Gomal University Pakistan over sloganeering against the state institutions.

Police have filed the cases over complaints that these students resorted to sloganeering against the state institutions near the hostel of Gomal University.

The case filed by the security in-charge of the university reads that about 50 students associated with the PTM and ISF staged protest near the Hostel No.7 during which they blocked the road and some of them chanted slogans against the state institutions.

Police said raids are continuing to arrest the students after filing of the case.
