CHITRAL, June 20: Pakistani and foreign tourists have thronged Chitral district to attend the traditional Shandur festival.

This festival will continue for three days and a tournament will be held among five polo teams in the event.

Like the previous year, the government of Gilgit-Baltistan boycotted the Shandur festival due to boundary issue with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. In the past, the teams of Gilgit and Chitral used to compete in the polo matches.

The polo matches are played in the highest ground of the world where traditional musical instruments are also played and traditional dances presented.

Tourists take great interest in traditional clothes and other such items to be sold in the festival. Shandur festival is being held since 1937 till date, in the month of July. This year the festival started on 20 June due to arrival of the holy month of Ramazan.
