Traders accuse Mardan police check post in-charge of demanding bribe

MARDAN, 12 September: The traders of Nowshera have accused the in-charge of Shago police check post of manhandling them and demanding Rs20,000 bribe per month.

Traders Zahoor Khan and Amraiz Khan said while addressing a press conference in Mardan on Monday that they are doing business of black tea and cloth from Rashkai to Swat for the last many years. However, they alleged that Shago check post in-charge Tahir Khan took Rs20,000 bribe from them last month and also manhandled them.

Amraiz Khan told TNN that the in-charge of the check post used to take Rs10,000 bribe earlier. He said Tahir Khan was also seeking Rs300 each for constables on the check post.

“Last month, he (Tahir Khan) said we will have to pay Rs20,000 now for each trip. We left our business due to this attitude of the in-charge and also submitted complaints with the district police officer and superintendent of police operations, but no action has been taken against him,” he said.

Tahir Khan rejected allegations of the traders and said they were doing illegal business. He said he has handed over the confiscated items to the Customs officials.
