Transgender persons protest Bannu police’s indefinite ban on profession

BANNU: Transgender people on Saturday continued their demonstration to protest a ban imposed by the district government on their performances at ceremonies.

The protesting transgender persons, who gathered outside Bannu Press Club, were holding banners and placards and chanted slogans against the district government for the ban imposed on their profession.

They blocked road outside the press club for traffic for half-an-hour and demanded of the provincial government to take notice of the illegal ban.

They said that the police have ban on their functions across the district since last one-and-a-half year forcing them to starve as they had no alternative source of income.

They said that there was no ban in any part of the province on their functions while Bannu police have illegally banned them from performing their profession.

They demanded that the ban should be lifted as soon as possible and exempt them from receiving a no-objection certificate from police stations.

The protesters later dispersed after DSP Attiqur Rahman assured them to raise the issue with high-ups.
