LANDIKOTAL, 12 October: Tribal Journalist Rahat Shinwari was released by security forces on Sunday after his colleagues tribal journalists, civil society members, students and politicians protested his arrest by personnel of Frontier Corps here in Landikotal bazaar.
Security forces picked up Rahat Shinwari from his house in Khogakhel area of Landikotal on Saturday and shifted him to undisclosed location for investigation, said his brother Fawad Shinwari while talkin to reporters.
The protesters walked from Landikotal Press Club and gathered outside the political administration office. They were chanting slogans against the administration and holding placards and banners inscribed with demands for early release of the detained journalist.
Addressing the protestors, President TUJ Mehboob Shah Afridi and others strongly condemned the illegal arrest of Rahat Shinwari and termed it an attempt by security forces to muzzle free media in tribal areas.
Other speakers includ ANP Saida Jan, JI Naib Ameer FATA Zernoor Afridi, JUI-F Jihad Shah, PTI Raziq Shinwari, PPP Hazrat Wali Afridi and PML-N Said Gha Jan.
They said that harassment of journalists and restrictions on media would not be accepted and set 24 hours deadline for the release of the journalist otherwise they would their protest for indefinite time.
Rahat Shinwari reached home after released by security forces on Sunday evening.
