PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman said on Monday that tribal people will be consulted in the decision-making process of tribal districts of the province.
“The government would not compromise on dignity, respect and honour of tribal people and every decision regarding merged districts would be taken in consultation with the local people,” said Shah Farman while talking to a tribal Jirga from district North Waziristan who called on the governor here at Governor House.
The jirga includes Malik Khan Marjan, Malik Khan Zeb Dawar, Malik Naseer Ullah Khan Wazir and others elders of the North Waziristan District. The Governor said that the purpose of holding the meeting with tribal people is to develop consensus and better planning, adding that soon a new era of prosperity and development would start in tribal areas.
He said that the present government is taking pragmatic measures through comprehensive planning to utilize Rs 100 billion development funds in merged districts in the next 10 years. The Governor clarified that no law is being introduced for the tribal districts that is against the tribal customs and traditions.
He said that the government intended to make merged districts’ developed rather benefit a single family or area.
CM wants development work in tribal districts to pick up speed
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan in a meeting directed the government officials to expedite work on streamlining all the seven tribal districts of the province. The chief minister claimed that the government is taking all the decisions of formulating a development strategy for the tribal districts on merit and transparent process.
Minister for local government, Shahram Khan Tarakai, Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra, IG Police Salah Uddin Mehsud, KP advocate General Abdul Latif Yousafzai and other senior government officials participated in the meeting.
“There is a need to extend all the social services to the tribal districts without any delay,” the CM asked the officials and directed the Chief secretary speed up to the process of development projects.
