Tribal students urge Fata Secretariat to conduct tests for educational grants before it lapses

PESHAWAR, 12 March: Students from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) have alleged that due to inefficiency of the Fata Secretariat authorities, 50 educational grants for talented students from Fata might get lapsed.

Office bearers of the Fata Students Federation (FSF) told a news conference in Peshawar press club on Monday here that each year, the Fata Secretariat conduct tests through the Education Testing Evaluation Authority (ETEA) and select 50 brilliant students for free education from class-7th to class 12th but this year, no preparations are made to conduct the test.

The federation president Esa Khan Orakzai alleged that massive corruption is being done in the funds meant for students and youth of Fata. He demanded that a fair audit of the funds should be done and the same should be made public.

Esa Khan further alleged that transparency had not been followed in filling vacant posts in Education and Health departments in Fata, adding, most of the vacancies were sold by the officials.

He further noted that billions of rupees developmental funds are lapsed every year and the same could not be utilized due to incompetence of the Fata Secretariat officials. He asked the government and other accountability bodies to take notice of the alleged corruption.

He also criticized those tribal elders who allegedly facilitate people of settled districts in obtaining Fata domicile and urged the government to take action against them.

“There are plenty of qualified but jobless youth in Fata. The government should give priority to tribal youth while hiring individuals against different posts in Fata. We also demand that tribal people should be appointed on different posts in Fata Secretariat,” Orakzai said.

The students warned that if their demands were not met, they would hold protest demonstration and sit-ins outside the Goverons’ House and the Fata Secretariat
