Jamrud: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) arranged a seminar in Jamrud, Khyber tribal district, to create awareness among the tribal women about importance of participation in the elections.

The PPP Khyber district president Jemima Afridi said on the occasion that the PPP has always worked for women’s rights and raised its voice for this purpose at every forum. She said the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) would be extended to every nook and corner of the country after the victory of the PPP in the upcoming general elections. She said special food stores would be established under the programme where the women will get special facilities.

Jemima said about 28,000 people are benefiting from the programme in her constituency and more people would be included in the list of beneficiaries if the PPP wins the polls. She said the financial assistance under the programme will be increased to Rs10,000.

The PPP leader said former prime minister Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for the rights of people. She urged the tribal women to fully participate in the upcoming elections because it is an opportunity for them to make their presence felt. She said the tribal women have the potential to change the destiny of the region.
